Back from a trip to Brussels and Paris, I am artistically stimulated and feel inspired!
Brussels highlight: 'Swedish Ecstacy' at Bozar art museum, where the jewel of the crown was monumental pieces, paintings by Hilma af Klint. Paris highlights were first and foremost the main reason why we embarked on this trip: our nephew Markus's graduation performance as part of his juggling BA, at Monfort Theatre. He and his fellow circus students performed outstanding solo shows. Well done and congratulations on your completion!
Another show worth seeing (if you happen to be in Paris): Anna Eva Bergman at The Musée d'Art Moderne. Perhaps because I had just seen af Klint, but there were stark parallels between the two. Surprisingly, I drew a parallel to the two mentioned in Anni Albers' (at the same museum) woven piece 'Haiku'. Namely metallics, more specifically silver.
So beware, silver may occur where inspiration has left its imprint.

Tilbake frå ein tur til Brüssel og Paris, er eg kunstnerisk stimulert og kjenner meg inspirert! Høgdepunkt frå Brüssel: 'Swedish Ecstacy' på Bozar kunstmuseum, kor rosina i pølsa var monumentale stykke – måleri – av Hilma af Klint. Høgdepunkter i Paris var først og fremst hovedgrunnen til at me la ut på denne turen: nevøen vår Markus sin avgangsforestilling som ein del av hans Bachelor i sjonglør, ved Monfort Theatre. Han og hans med-sirkusstudentar framførte fremragande soloshow. Utruleg bra og gratulerar med gjennomføringen! Eit anna show verd å sjå (dersom du tilfeldigvis er i Paris): Anna-Eva Bergman på Musée d'Art Moderne. Kanskje fordi eg nettopp hadde sett af Klint, men det var sterke parallellar mellom desse to. Overraskande nok teikna eg ein parallell til dei to nemnde i Anni Albers (på samme museum) sitt vevde verk 'Haiku'. Nemleg metallisk, nærare bestemt sølv.
Så sjå opp for sølv, det kan forekomma der inspirasjonen har sett sitt avtrykk.

The PV for the exhibition 'One and Another' is this week, Thursday the 4th of May. All the work is already up and although I may be biased, as I am part of this show, it is one of the most fascinating shows of this kind I have seen. From Northern Print:
'‘One and Another’ is an exhibition showcasing the work of studio users and artists associated with Northern Print. The exhibition presents work by a selection of artists who will each show two works alongside each other - one print and one other work in another medium.
Many of our studio users and artists make work using a wide range of creative processes and media including painting, drawing, collage, photography, bookbinding, ceramics, glass and textiles; there are often links between the two creative processes through techniques, themes, concepts, or aesthetics.
This exhibition is a celebration of the wealth of creative talent within Northern Print whilst also presenting the versatility and relevance of printmaking within other art-making and craft-making processes.'
If you are in Newcastle tomorrow, you are most welcome to the private view! If you plan a visit in the near future, you have until June 24th to see it. Well worth a visit to our beautiful gallery/studio and also Newcastle and the creative Ouseburn area (where Northern Print is located) in general. The art scene here is really thriving. Vernissasjen for utstillinga 'One and Another' er denne veka, torsdag 4. mai. Alt arbeidet er allerede oppe, og sjølv om eg kanskje er partisk, ettersom eg er ein del av utstillinga, er det ein av dei mest fascinerande av denne typen eg har sett. Frå Northern Print: ''One and Another' er ein utstilling som viser arbeidet til studiobrukerar og kunstnerar knytta til Northern Print. Utstillinga presenterer verk av eit utval kunstnerar som kvar skal visa to verk ved sida av kvarandre – eit trykk og eit anna verk i eit anna medium. Mange av våre studiobrukerar og kunstnerar lagar arbeid ved å bruke eit bredt spekter av kreative prosessar og medier, inkludert måleri, teikning, collage, fotografi, bokbinding, keramikk, glas og tekstilar; det er ofte koplingar mellom dei to kreative prosessane gjennom teknikkar, temaar, konsept eller estetikk. Denne utstillinga er ei feiring av rikdommen av kreative talent innan Northern Print, samtidig som den presenterar allsidighet og relevansen til trykking innanfor andre kunst- og handverksprosessar.'
Dersom du er i Newcastle i morgon, er du hjarteleg velkomen til vernissasjen! Planlegg du eit besøk i nær framtid, har du til 24. juni til å sjå det. Vel verdt eit besøk til vårt vakre galleri/studio og også til Newcastle og det kreative Ouseburn-området (kor Northern Print ligg) generelt. Kunstscena her er verkeleg blømande. Activities
Speaking of Northern Print, I have had a couple of good sessions working in the print studio lately. They have been focused on experimenting and 'playfulness', and yesterday in particular I think my most recent 'art trip' visualised itself in prints.
I am also in the process of preparing, developing and deciding which work I should represent at the upcoming member's exhibition in Oslo, hosted by the Association of Norwegian Printmakers. An exciting process.

Apropos Northern Print, eg har hatt eit par gode økter i verkstaden i det siste. Det har blitt fokusert på eksperimentering og 'leikenhet', og spesielt i går trur eg at mi mest nylege 'kunstreise' visualiserte seg sjølv i trykk. Eg er også i ferd med å forbereda, utvikla og bestemma kva arbeid eg skal representere på den komande medlemsutstillinga i Oslo, arrangert av Norske Grafikere. Ein spanande prosess.
Recommendations
Apart from recommending our exhibition 'One and another', I gained so much from going abroad recently, that I will urge you to 'get out there!'. It does not have to be abroad, not at all. The week before, we went to Hexham and attended an artist talk with Ingrid Pollard. We visited the newly opened Farrell Centre for architecture in Newcastle and saw the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham show at Gallagher & Turner (last chance to catch this week!). I am sure we did not even have to take the metro to soak up some inspiration, as a visit to our local cinema yesterday provided exactly that!
But you need to be proactive, get out, and seek it out. I can say with (almost) certainty it will be worth it.

Bortsett frå å anbefala vår utstilling 'One and another', har eg fått så mykje ut av å reisa utanlands nyleg, at eg vil oppmoda deg til å 'kome deg ut!'. Det treng ikkje vera til utlandet, ikkje i det heile tatt. Veka før, reiste me til Hexham og deltok på ein kunstnarpresentasjon med Ingrid Pollard. Me besøkte det nyopna Farrell-senteret for arkitektur i Newcastle og så Wilhelmina Barns-Graham utstillinga på Gallagher & Turner (siste sjanse til å få sett denne veka!). Eg er sikker på at me ikkje eingong hadde trengt å ta metroen for å suge til oss litt inspirasjon, sidan eit besøk på vår lokale kino i går gav akkurat det!
Men du må vera proaktiv, koma deg ut, oppsøkje det. Eg kan sei med (mest heilt) sikkerhet at det vil vera verdt det.
